“Explorations in Thai Modern Design” exhibition to be postponed
The ‘50th Anniversary of the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University’ Implementing Committee and Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) will postpone the exhibition “Explorations in Thai Modern Design” to Sunday 18th March, 2007.
Month of Design
Celebrating 50 years of the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn UniversityBe it a product designer who converted useless water hyacinth into award-winning furniture, an internationally prominent fashion designer, a top-grossing film director or a world-renowned advertising creative – they all graduated from the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University.
‘Thai modern design’ traces its history back to the period of the ‘Father of Thai Design’ HRH Prince Narissaranuwaddhiwongse, who cleverly combined Western design methodology with Thai tradition, to the establishment of Thailand’s first school of modern design – the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University; compelling to seek the balance between Thai-ness and foreign influences at first, now Thai designers have developed and established their unique perspectives.
Experience the works and visions of more than 30 foremost designers who have been the driving force behind Thai modern design, including interior design, product design, print media, film, animation, advertising, as well as fashion, textiles and jewellery in “Explorations in Thai Modern Design”, a collaboration between the Alumni Association and the ‘50th Anniversary of the Faculty of Decorative Arts’ Implementing Committee.
What is Thai modern design?

NOIR street art exhibtion BKK
Four emerging thai painters, designers and graffiti artists show their work with a mix of marker, painting, and sticker installations at Pla dib gallery bangkok.
On the opening night the artists are joined by the renown thai street artist P7 with live graffiti performances and visuals by lost in space artist christian hogue.
The exhibition artists AUD, TP07, NEVER and JOB represent a cross section of street art and contemporary thai visuals. strong on the theme of characters all the work explores the dark side of character and manga based influences.
tp07's zoo-morphicized everyday furniture sprouts fur and animalistic ferocity. AUD's ultra cutesy characters and dolls whip out knives and decapitate their owners. NEVER's frenzied scribbles horrify the unwary viewer and Job's serenely simplistic characters spout subversive anti-war and free love slogans.
P7 local thai graffiti legend will bring his wickedly ironic marker art to bear in a live performance on the opening night of the exhibition (7pm friday 19th jan). the iconoclastic image of a Wookie holding Mickey Mouse's head aloft on his spear typifies P7's work.
Christian Hogue lost in space's founding father has performed internationally at various media art festivals and with thai musicians Joni Anwar and Montoon Jira.
lost in space's creative network has created visuals for the Rolling stones, Robbie Williams and Bjork's live stage performances over the years as well commercials for well know brands such as Nike, Honda, Sony, films featured in festivals such as "one dot zero" and music videos for innovative bands like Autechre.
This exhibition is part of lost in space's drive to bring Asia's creative artists to the attention of asian and western audiences.
The exhibition was conceived and produced by Antika "Gift" teparak and partnered in crime by Nisakorn "Toony" Sihanatkathakul. Gift spear heads lost in space's thai operations producing work with local partners such as Kantana studios for western and japanese clients.
Gift's extensive experience in international liaising in the fashion model world is critical in allowing lost in space to service overseas creative clients looking to work with fresh thai creative talent.
the exhibition opens on the 19th jan 07 until the 9th of feb at the "Art Space" Pla Dib,
1/1 Areesamphan 7 Phaholyothin 7, PhayaThai, Bangkok.
signed edition CD-R collections and T's are available on the night.
opening party starts at 7 pm on the friday 19th jan.
